Africa’s youth constitute 70% of its population, with 60% of the continent being under 25, and as of 2023, 40% are 15 years old or younger. The Population Reference Bureau projects that by 2030, young Africans will represent 42% of the global youth population. This demographic shift presents a significant opportunity for inclusive and sustainable development across the continent. Prioritizing the roles of the youth, especially women in today’s political discourse is imperative; participation needs to extend beyond the confines of sharing their opinions to giving them leadership opportunities at local, regional, national, and international levels for an inclusive and sustained growth across all development sectors. Against this background, the Africa Women and Children Conference 2025 aims to convene key stakeholders to explore youth engagement in leadership and strategies to build synergies that create opportunities for youth participation across sectors for inclusive and sustainable development.
Focusing on the innovative and creative potential of young people in driving change and the need to amplify their voices and perspectives by providing them with a platform to connect, share their ideas, solutions and aspirations in driving sustainable and inclusive development, the 2025 AFRIWOCC will be guided by the following objectives:
