He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Weather and Climate, Climatology, Climate Change: Science and Evidence, and Climate Change and Society.
His research interests are diverse, encompassing climate change adaptation, climate-smart agriculture, and the socio-economic impacts of environmental changes. Notably, he served as the Principal Investigator for the “Climate Smart Cocoa Systems for Ghana (CLIMCOCOA)” project, funded by DANIDA, aiming to develop sustainable cocoa farming practices resilient to climate change. He also investigated the socio-economic impacts of the Bui Dam on downstream non-resettled communities, providing insights into the consequences of large-scale infrastructural projects on the environment and local populations. In addition to his research, Professor Owusu has held significant administrative roles. He was appointed Head of the Department of Geography and Resource Development, School of Social Sciences, College of Humanities, serving from August 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022 and immediately appointed as the Director of C3SS.
His scholarly work is widely recognized, with numerous publications in reputable journals. For instance, his research on the potential of selected shade tree species for managing pests and diseases in cocoa agroforestry systems offers practical solutions to challenges faced by farmers in Ghana.
