Samira Bawumia was born Samira Ramadan in Ghana. She is the daughter of Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, a prominent politician and the former National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), and Hajia Ayesha Ramadan. She grew up in a politically engaged and well-educated family, which greatly influenced her outlook on life and public service.

Samira pursued her secondary education at the prestigious Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast, Ghana. She then attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science. Furthering her education, she obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Samira is married to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana. The couple has four children together. Her role as the Second Lady of Ghana has placed her in a significant position to influence social change and development in the country.

Samira Bawumia has established herself as a passionate advocate for women’s rights, education, and public health. Her work spans various sectors, focusing on improving the lives of Ghanaian citizens, particularly women and children.

As the Second Lady, she launched the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP), a non-governmental organization aimed at empowering underprivileged individuals through diverse initiatives in health, education, and economic development. SEHP has been instrumental in providing educational materials to schools, offering support to healthcare facilities, and promoting women’s entrepreneurship.

Samira is well-known for her philanthropic efforts. She actively supports initiatives that promote literacy and education among Ghanaian youth. Through her “Library in a Box” project, she has distributed thousands of books to schools across Ghana, encouraging a culture of reading and learning.

Her advocacy extends to maternal and child health. She has championed causes related to reducing maternal mortality and improving access to healthcare for women and children. Her work in this area has garnered national and international recognition.

Through SEHP, she launched this initiative to establish libraries and learning centers in underserved communities across Ghana, promoting literacy and education.

Safe Delivery Project

This project aims to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by providing birth kits to expectant mothers in remote and deprived areas. The kits contain essential items needed for safe delivery.

Book Donation Campaign

Continuing her commitment to literacy, Samira Bawumia spearheaded a campaign to distribute books to schools and libraries, aiming to enhance access to educational resources for children in underserved areas.
