His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a prominent Ghanaian politician and lawyer who has served as the President of Ghana since January 7, 2017. Born on March 29, 1944, in Accra, Ghana, he comes from a distinguished family with a strong political legacy. His father, Edward Akufo-Addo, was a prominent lawyer and politician who served as Chief Justice and later as President of Ghana.
Nana Akufo-Addo received his early education at the Government Boys School in Adabraka and the Rowe Road School in Accra. He then attended the prestigious Achimota School before moving to the United Kingdom for further studies at Lancing College. He pursued higher education at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he earned a degree in economics. He later trained as a lawyer in the United Kingdom, studying at the Inns of Court School of Law and being called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in 1971. He was subsequently called to the Ghanaian Bar in 1975.
As President, Nana Akufo-Addo has focused on economic reforms, anti-corruption measures, and education. One of his notable initiatives is the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, aimed at providing free education to all Ghanaian children at the secondary level. He has also been an advocate for industrialization and economic diversification in Ghana, promoting policies to boost the country’s manufacturing and export sectors.
