Code of Conduct
At AFRIWOCC, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming community for everyone. Our commitment is to provide a safe and friendly environment, irrespective of gender, disability, ethnicity, or religion. This code of conduct sets forth our expectations for participant behaviour and outlines the consequences for any unacceptable conduct. We extend the invitation to sponsors, speakers, attendees, media, exhibitors, and all other participants to join us in creating a positive and secure conference experience for all. The determination of appropriate or inappropriate behaviour falls under AFRIWOCC’s sole discretion, and decisions made by AFRIWOCC representatives on-site will be considered final.
- Show consideration, respect, and a collaborative spirit.
- Refrain from engaging in any demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour, both in speech and materials used.
- Be attentive to your surroundings and the well-being of fellow participants. If you observe any dangerous situations or someone in distress, promptly notify the conference organisers.
- Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct or materials by any event attendees or participants.
- Harassment, which encompasses offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability, or any inappropriate use of nudity and sexual imagery in public spaces (including presentation slides).
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, or any form of harassment through materials, photography, recording, or unwanted advances.
- Disrupting talks or other events, either verbally or otherwise, and engaging in physical contact that is unwelcome or inappropriate.
- Wearing clothing that is unsuitable for a professional work environment, provocative, or potentially offensive.
- Possession of items that could be used as weapons, posing a threat to others’ safety.
- Engaging in boisterous, lewd, offensive language or behaviour, including the use of profanity, obscene gestures, or racial, religious, or ethnic slurs.
- Carrying open containers of alcoholic beverages outside designated areas. Responsible alcohol consumption is encouraged.
- Possession or use of any illegal substances, including narcotics, marijuana, or other illegal drugs. AFRIWOCC strictly prohibits the use or abuse of illegal substances at any event venue.
- Smoking in non-designated areas.
- Assembling with the intention of disturbing the peace or engaging in any unlawful or offensive behaviour.
- Failure to comply with any rules or regulations of the venue.
AFRIWOCC does not tolerate any form of unacceptable behaviour from attendees, media, speakers, volunteers, organisers, venue staff, sponsors, or exhibitors. Those
engaged in such behaviour will be asked to cease immediately. The conference organisers hold the right to take appropriate action, including expulsion from the conference without warning and make an official report to relevant state agencies.
If you witness or experience any unacceptable behaviour or have concerns, please notify a conference organiser promptly. All reports will be treated as confidential. Event Staff will be available to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or offer assistance to those experiencing unacceptable behaviour, ensuring their safety throughout the conference. You can report such behaviour to any staff member, either in the Show Office on-site or through the email contacts below.
This code of conduct applies to all conference participants, including staff, sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other guests, at all conference venues and related social events.
Please be aware that video recordings and photographs will be taken during the event. By attending, you agree to allow your image and likeness to be used by AFRIWOCC.
