Chinweoke Busola Abuwa is a results-driven economist, policy advocate, and social entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in international energy and extractives, global health, employment creation, and strategic advocacy. With a proven track record in policy research, stakeholder engagement, and project management, she has worked across government, private sector, and civil society to drive development outcomes across sub-Saharan Africa.
Currently serving as a Policy and Advocacy Officer, Chinweoke has been instrumental in advancing key policy initiatives, including the successful adoption of the Nigerian Startup Act Bill in multiple states, leading to job creation and enhanced economic opportunities. She also provides strategic policy support on health system strengthening, pandemic preparedness, vaccines, and basic healthcare provision in Nigeria.
Her previous roles include Senior Economist at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, where she played a pivotal role in developing fiscal incentives to attract investments in Nigeria’s petroleum sector. She also contributed technical expertise to the drafting of the Petroleum Industry Bill, influencing the country’s energy governance framework.
Beyond policy, Chinweoke is the founder of Umama, a social enterprise transforming postpartum care in Africa. Umama provides holistic postpartum support, including live-in care services, subscription boxes, and access to health professionals, while also economically empowering women from lower-income communities.
Chinweoke is also an accomplished event strategist, running a thriving event management company that curates impactful corporate, policy, and social gatherings. Her expertise ensures the seamless execution of high-profile conferences, summits, and stakeholder engagements.
She holds a Master of International Business from Hult International Business School, a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Port Harcourt, and has furthered her expertise through executive education programs, including Public Management in Energy (UC Davis) and Resource Revenue Management (Central European University, Budapest).
A Mandela Washington Fellow, she is passionate about leadership development, health economics, and designing policies that foster sustainable growth. She actively mentors young professionals and leads goal-setting workshops, equipping emerging leaders with tools for personal and professional success.
